Have you ever wondered how to easily create a Wi-Fi hotspot to connect other wireless-enabled devices to your Internet connection on your laptop? In this tip, I’ll be showing you how to set up a virtual router to share your computer’s Internet connection by using a piece of software called Virtual Router Plus.
What is Virtual Router?
Virtual Router is a free, open source software based router for PCs running Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Using Virtual Router, users can wirelessly share any internet connection (Wifi, LAN, Cable Modem, Dial-up, Cellular, etc.) with any Wifi device (Laptop, Smart Phone, iPod Touch, iPhone, Android Phone, Zune, Netbook, wireless printer, etc.) These devices connect to Virtual Router just like any other access point, and the connection is completely secured using WPA2 (the most secure wireless encryption.)
How To Create a Wireless Hotspot
1. First, you’ll need to download and install Virtual Router Plus.
2. Run the application and change the Network Name (SSID), enter any password you want and choose the internet connection that you want to share. The connection could be Wi-Fi, Cellular Broadband network or even LAN.
3. After entering the router details click on “Start Virtual Router Plus” to start sharing your internet connection. You should now see a pop-up notification within the notification area notifying you that the Virtual Router Plus has started.
4. Now your other wireless devices should be able to detect and connect to your computer’s Internet connection.
Have fun!
